Life Church Education Building
Life Church-Education Building – Roanoke, VA
New Construction – 2 Story Classrooms grades K-12
The Design Build process began on March of 2007, for the first of 3 phases. Our major challenges were keeping the school, daycare and after school programs operational during construction, and bringing a design element to tie the two different existing structures together to make them appear as one.
Phase I – Demo existing Classrooms and Gymnasium Area and construct 2 story Classrooms, 2 sets of full restrooms, all new mechanical, electrical and plumbing. Prior to construction, the existing building was found to be almost five inches below the required FEMA flood elevation. This required pouring a new slab to raise the entire phase I project before construction of the classrooms could begin. Design was completed in April of 2007, and the review process was under way with Roanoke County Building and Zoning. The completion time was a very short 3 month period, in order to have Phase I completed prior to the school reopening at the end of August 2007.
Phase II & III – New construction of two story structure between Phase 1 and the existing sanctuary building with a science lab, library, computer lab full commercial kitchen, 3 offices, a reception area and additional classroom space. Phase 3 also included the addition of portico drop off point at the entry of Phase I. Construction of Phase II and Phase III began September 2007 and was completed March 2008.
Future Project – Phase IV – The Design Build process is currently underway for a second story of classrooms over the existing one story sanctuary building, and a two story Family Life Center with Gymnasium, Weight Room, Indoor track, Locker Rooms, Offices, and covered Bus Parking and drop off area.
